Surekha Yadav (born 2 September 1965) is the first woman train driver of the Indian Railways. In 1988, she became the first woman train driver in India. In April 2000, "Ladies Special"-local trains were introduced for the first time in four metropolitan cities by the then Railway Minister Mamta Banerjee, whose crew member Yadav also became a member. An important event in her career occurred on 8 March 2011, International Women's Day, when she became the first woman train driver in Asia to take a train named Deccan Queen from Pune to CST, Mumbai, where the then Mayor of Mumbai Shraddha Jadhav welcomed him at CST, Headquarters of Central Railway Zone. It was a dream come true for Surekha, as she was the driver of one of the prestigious trains of Central Railway, which was run by a lady driver; The Mumbai-Pune Railway Pravasi Sangh (Association) strongly supported him to run this train.
