How should I prepare for SSC CGL if I am a beginner ?

Since you are a beginner in my opinion you must be aiming SSC CGL 2018. For that you need to follow a detailed strategy.

1. First of all you need to assess yourself. You should assess where you stand and which subject you need to focus more and on which subjcts you can pay less attention. For this you must give one mock test and then try to compare your marks with the given standard
  • Maths - 30 marks
  • Reasoning - 35 marks
  • English- 25 marks
  • GS - 15 marks
These marks are for a paper of moderate difficulty.. You can adjust marks according to the difficulty of paper. These are the marks for a beginner

2. After assessing yourself start preparing for the paper you find the most difficult. And now begin to aim 45+ in maths and reasoning, 40+ in english and 30+ in GS.

3. Since SSC CGL is all about tier 2 exam your studies should be integrated and study maths and English in a manner that are best suited for tier 2. Thats why pay core of the time for these two portions

4. Make a daily schedule which have at least 6 hours of study and never try to cross more than 10 hours… Set weekly targets (can be monthly or daily as suits you). And try to complete more than your target.

5. Try to keep sundays off for revisions and for tracking down what you have studied the whole week

6. When half of your course is complete start taking mock test and see the growth you have achieved. Most important part of a mock test is checking solutions and knowing lacuna in ur preparation

7. You can follow 2 books for a subject.. But never follow more than this otherwise you will be in an enigma and you may get lost

8. Try to cover all the previous year papers as ssc has a habit of repeating question and previous year paper help you know about the level of paper.. Try to stick to the level that ssc has decided and don't do anything which is not relevant for exam.

9. If attending any coaching class then its good.. But try to befriend only those who are beginners like you. Because if you befriend the repeaters you may feel a bit downgraded then them.

10. Revision, mock test and mini mock tests are the most important…you must do these things regularly… Revise a book at least thrice.. Take a good mock test every week and afterwards daily and for mini mocks you can get these through two apps naming ADDA247 and Gradeup.. These two apps are must

11. Now subject wise
Maths - considered to be most tricky part by most of us. For arithmetic portion cram as less as possible formula and stick to basics. Make your calculations real faster. And for advance maths you can buy the book of rakesh yadav sir or any other book… But advance maths is all about formula.. And in the end do all the questions given in previous year papers. One warning - do not touch the book quantum cat by sarvesh kumar until you are confident enough that you have done every other thing in maths.
English - for english portion you must study english newspaper on a daily basis. Spend at least a hour doing this exercise. This will strenthen your basics and will make you a master in vocabulary.. Other benefits are. It will help you in error correction, reading comprehensions, close test etc. Buy a good english book and try to discuss rules of grammar with your friends… One warning never ever try to mug up vocabulary… Vocabulary is built over a period of time
Reasoning- i consider it the easiest of all and in my opinion mock tests and mini mock tests would be enough
GS- If you can read lucent then it is very good but key for GS in SSC is previous year question... and if u r a study freak then you can refer ncert too…

Thank you
