Rabindranath Tagore or Rabindranath Tagore (Bengali: রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর रबीन्द्रनाथ ठाकुर) (7 May 1861 – 7 August 1941) is a world-renowned poet, litterateur, philosopher and Nobel laureate in Indian literature. He is also known as Gurudev. He was an epoch-maker who rejuvenated the Indian cultural consciousness through Bengali literature. He is Asia's first Nobel Prize winner. He is the only poet whose two compositions became the national anthem of two countries - 'Jana Gana Mana', the national anthem of India and 'Amar Sonar Bangla', the national anthem of Bangladesh.

Rabindranath Tagore was born on 7 May 1861 in Jorasanko Thakurbari, Kolkata. His father was Devendranath Tagore and mother was Sharda Devi. He had his early education at the prestigious St. Xavier's School.
