What is JEE - All About Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and More.

What is Joint Entrance Exam / JEE?
Joint Entrance Examination or JEE is a national level (All India) engineering entrance examination. It qualifies candidates for IIITs, NITs, IITs and government aided engineering colleges across the country. The exam is made up of two different exams-
  1. JEE Main
  2. JEE Advanced

IIT JEE History
The test was considered and first conducted in the year 1960. It was named as Common Entrance Examination (CEE), however, later it was renamed as JEE (Joint Entrance Examination).

In 2010 there was a proposal to replace the Joint Entrance Examination, which was turned down by many participating IITs. Later, the Joint Admission Board (JAB) adopted a new admission policy in the meeting at IIT Delhi.

New Admission Criteria for IITs

Since 2013, admission to IITs takes place in a two-stage exam- JEE Main and JEE Advanced. Candidates are given a weight-age ratio of 60-40. Admission to IITs, NITs and CFTIs for B.E. / B.Tech / B.Arch / B.Planning. The courses will be based on All India Rank subject to the conditions prescribed by CSAB.

What are JEE Exam Dates?

As per the latest information, JEE exam will be conducted in two parts:
  • JEE Mains: 21, 24, 25, 29 April & 01, 04 May 2022 (Session 1) and 24-29 May 2022 (Session 2)
  • JEE Advanced: 03 July 2022
  • A candidate can appear for JEE Main twice and can attempt a maximum of 3 attempts in each.
  • From 2019, there will be a total of six attempts.

What is National Testing Agency?

The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India announced the establishment of National Testing Agency (NTA) in 2018. NTA is a premier testing organization which is independent, autonomous and self-sustaining. The organization seeks to conduct a transparent, effective and efficient examination. NTA is also responsible for creating international standard tests to check the ability of applicants.

From 2019, it is the responsibility of the Department of Higher Education, MHRD and Government of India (GoI) to conduct JEE (Main) along with NTA.

Test Practice Center by NTA

NTA has established a network of examination centers across India. Interested students can practice the "Computer Based Test (CBT)" mode of examinations. Experienced, qualified and professional nodal officers along with other staff available at the centers will help and motivate the students to clear their doubts. They also solve problems so that they are familiar with the CBT model of examinations.
  • Find JEE Main February, March, April, May Paper Set 2021 and previous year papers from 2010 to 2021
  • Procedure followed by NTA for compilation of marks for multi-session papers (Normalization process based on percentile score)
  • NTA will conduct JEE Main exam in two sessions daily on multiple dates.

Why Generalise?
  • Each candidate will get a different set of question papers in each session. The difficulty level of these question papers may not be the same in spite of all efforts to maintain parity.
  • Some candidates may attempt a difficult set of questions as compared to the other set of questions.
  • The candidate who has attempted a difficult exam is likely to get less/lesser marks than those who have attempted an easy exam.
The "normalization procedure based on percentage score" has been adapted to overcome a situation like the one described above. Thus it will ensure that the candidates are neither benefited nor harmed. The difficulty level of the exam or question papers identifies the actual merit of the candidate.
